Kofa National Wildlife Refuge (Refuge), in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, has prepared a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for constructing a bypass road around private inholdings on the refuge. The Castle Dome Road is currently closed at the boundary of the private inholdings. The refuge is seeking to reroute the road onto refuge lands to restore safe and efficient public access to the Castle Dome Mountain area by high clearance 2-wheel drive vehicles. Copies of the draft EA are available at the refuge headquarters and on the refuge website at: https://www.fws.gov/refuge/kofa/
As a follow-up to our December consultation letter we would like to make you aware that The draft EA is available for a 30-day public review and comment period starting May 10, 2019 and ending on Saturday, June 8, 2019. The public is encouraged to submit written comments to: Kofa_road_EA_comments@fws.gov or to Kofa National Wildlife Refuge, Attn: Bypass Road EA, 9300 E 38th St., Yuma, AZ 85365.
Please note that names and any submitted comments become part of the public record for this project. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service must release names and comments, if requested, under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act of 1974.
